Factotum and Murray & Currie join forces

Factotum, one of Edinburgh’s oldest and well-established letting agencies, is delighted to announce it is joining forces with Murray & Currie who will proudly uphold the Factotum legacy from 1st August 2025.

This exciting development marks the coming together of two family-run Edinburgh property agencies with shared values, a deep commitment to client care and a passion for the Edinburgh property market. It also coincides with an important milestone for Factotum, which this year celebrates 40 years in business.

A Legacy Born in the Heart of Edinburgh

Factotum was founded in 1985 by husband and wife, Chris and Sarah Boisseau, initially focussed on accommodating visitors to the Edinburgh Festival.  The business quickly grew to offer both long-term letting as well as catering for short-term stays all year round and over the subsequent four decades became one of the most trusted names in Edinburgh letting.

Since inception, Factotum has diligently looked after thousands of properties, many of which still on the books today. The business has accommodated tens of thousands of Edinburgh residents, students and visitors, including an impressive list of Fringe performers and production outfits that have consistently relied on Factotum year after year.

Over the years Factotum has acted as a launchpad for hundreds of careers, with numerous team members going on to start their own businesses, including some that have gone on to become Edinburgh household names.

As Chris and Sarah now look towards retirement, this acquisition marks the end of an era, but also the beginning of an exciting new chapter.

To the Next 40 Years

As part of the transition, key Factotum team members will join Murray & Currie, ensuring continuity of relationships and expertise for landlords and tenants. Chris Boisseau will also join the Murray & Currie team as Advisor, offering his four decades of letting experience to support the ongoing development of the business.

Chris Boisseau, Co-Founder of Factotum, said:

“We’re delighted to be joining forces with Murray & Currie.  Having seen many names in the Edinburgh letting market absorbed into conglomerates in recent years, we were very keen to find a new home for Factotum that upheld the same principles that we’ve promoted over the last 40 years.  We’ve known the Murray & Currie team since before they founded the company, worked with them over years in various capacities and admired their success as they developed the business to become the well-respected brand it is today.

The legacy Sarah and I are most proud of is the ever growing Factotum ‘Family’, which consists of all the past and present landlords, long-standing tenants, much loved staff, loyal tradespeople and of course our actual family members – all of whom have made a lasting impression on us.

Murray & Currie is a great fit to take on the Factotum legacy, and I look forward to supporting Richard and Steven as they take it forward.”

Richard Murray, Director at Murray & Currie, commented:

“Factotum is a name we’ve respected for many years. Chris and Sarah built something really special, and we’re honoured to take that legacy forward. This acquisition isn’t about change for the sake of change — it’s about continuity, growth, and doing right by both clients and staff. We’re excited to welcome Emma, Mandy and Jordian into the Murray & Currie family and to start this new chapter together.”

Murray & Currie is excited to continue the future—rooted in history, built on trust, and driven by a shared ambition to deliver the very best in property management.
